The Universe Is the Highest Book of Truth

apply for “The Universe Is the Highest Book of Truth”, an intensive seminar for actors and artists under 35 that will take place in Turin over 8 days, with 8 hours of training per day. The seminar will be led by master Mamadou Dioume, an internationally renowned actor and director, and a recognised pedagogue at international level.

Designed to refine the acting skills of the participating artists and students, the seminar will involve intense physical and vocal work, followed by improvisations inspired by selected works of the Persian poet Jalâl al-Din Rumi. The programme will explore themes such as the dramaturgy of movement, body expression and vocal technique, acting and poetry.

The course will conclude with a final public presentation/performance and will be free of charge, funded through the SIAE “Per Chi Crea” Call for Applications – Professionalisation of Artists, 2024 edition, with possible expense reimbursement for participants residing outside Turin.

Applications are open to candidates under the age of 35 with Italian citizenship, whether resident in Italy or abroad, who show motivation and interest in theatre and poetry.

The project “The Universe Is the Highest Book of Truth” is an L’Altrofilm Academy project conceived by actress Diana Dell’Erba. It is funded through the SIAE “Per Chi Crea” Call for Applications – Professionalisation of Artists, 2024 edition, for training and professionalisation projects aimed at:

“encouraging the creativity of young authors, young artists, performers and interpreters up to the age of 35 who reside in Italy, or Italian citizens residing abroad for work or study reasons.”

CURRICULUM VITAE MAMADOU DIOUME  

Mamadou Dioume is a Senegalese-born, French-naturalised theatre actor, director and pedagogue. A graduate of the National Institute of Arts of Senegal (INAS), he worked with the Daniel Sorano National Theatre before collaborating for more than twenty years with master Peter Brook and the CICT company. With them, he played Bhima in “The Mahabharata”, in both French and English, during a four-year world theatre tour, later reprising the same role in the 1988 film version.

He has taken part in numerous film productions in France and Italy and has directed many theatre performances around the world. Since 1991, he has led workshops and masterclasses for actors across Africa and Europe, developing the knowledge and experience needed to transmit the strength of his traditions to European students.

 COURSE DETAILS
-Turin, from May 27 to June 3, 2025, for 8 hours per day
-Intensive workshop with final public presentation
-Topics covered: the poetry of Jalâl al-Din Rumi, dramaturgy of movement, body expression, vocal technique
-Free course, with possible expense reimbursement for participants coming from outside Turin.
